Atria Valley View

We really liked the staff. We think the facility is run by someone who really cares. I'm not an expert but if someone were to go to The Waterford building at Rossmoor(around the corner), they would experience the difference in the meals. Atria Valley View I would very much so recommend to others....

My father will be moving into Atria Valley View. We chose it because it was the most open and they were the most active with the residents. They were friendly. My father will be moving into Atria Valley View. We chose it because it was the most open and they were the most active with the residents. They were friendly. The residents were in the living room, socializing and talking. It's a beautiful facility. The sales director, Erin, was very patient, very accommodating, and very kind. The place was not too big. It was a good location. It just was the right fit. The studio is quite small at 300 square feet. Dad will be living in the deluxe studio, which is all set up to accommodate his needs. It's just the right size, nice, and updated. It has a small refrigerator, a little desk, a microwave in the kitchen, built-in dresser drawers, a closet, and a balcony outside. There's a one-bedroom, which is significantly more expensive. They have a movie room where they show movies every night. They have a beautiful living room. They have a grand piano in there and a fireplace and that's right next to the dining room, so everyone congregates there. The dining room is light, bright, and big. They have a walking trail around the facility. They have benches inside and outside. They have a van and a driver on a regular schedule and you can sign up for your own appointments. They have field trips, bingo, poker, arts and crafts, and knitting. They have a whole host of amenities. The chef came out and talked to us.

And what I was very much aware of was residents were participating, and they were talking about issues they were concerned about, and they were vocal. ...

We went to Atria Valley View. It didn't have the warmth that I was looking for. They were having a residence meeting with the staff of the facility. And what I was very much aware of was residents were participating, and they were talking about issues they were concerned about, and they were vocal. We met the head chef who was going to be going in as well. We saw one apartment that had been vacated but had not been renovated yet. He also showed us a studio apartment, which was different from the others, and was very spacious. They also had a very large deck on it, and they looked out over the hills and open area, which was quite appealing. They were mostly studio apartments, and very few one-bedrooms, which is what I'm looking for. They had a library. They also had a lovely room that was available for a family gathering or a private party if you wanted. It was well-appointed. There were places to go and sit outside that I liked a lot. There was a lot of room for people, and it seemed as far as being able to park a car, which I have, there wasn't much availability. So that was a downside for me.

I moved mom to Atria Valley View so that she could be closer to me. The staff included her in all her favorite activities. It is a very welcoming environment. Best move ever. Mom is 87 and always sees herself as young compared to everyone else. Quite comical...

Of all the places I've toured, the residents were the most social, friendly, and happy here. People always talk to me and are friendly when I visit, which I was really struck by, as well as with the creativity of the menu.

I was working with my younger brother to find a place. We went through quite a process and we did use A Place for Mom. We came up with about 3 to 4 places; we visited all of them and we got a perspective for each place. Bottom line is, we ended up at a place where we should have started. My brother has gone through some health issues and he did not realize he had a diagnosis in his medical record of dementia. So we went through this process and we spent months going through it. We were down there for almost 3 days in the Bay Area looking at these places. We payed his admission for Atria and I had purchased furniture for his apartment. I had it all delivered and the place was essentially ready for him to move in; but then we had trouble trying to get his medical records. The day before he was supposed to move in, his medical team in San Francisco sent his record to Atria. They immediately saw that in the past he had a dementia diagnosis. They called him and myself immediately and said that their policy would not allow them to accept anyone with a (past or present) dementia diagnosis. It was a shock to him, not the policy, but the fact that he had that diagnosis in his medical record. From there, we had to call all of the places to get the furniture removed, returned etc.. They did give me a little bit of a refund after their restocking fees. He's since gone back to his previous place, which wasn't a bad place, but he wanted to go to a community that had a lot more to offer. As far as atria; we met with them and I talked to them several times before we went to visit, I had a sense of the community - as best you can get over the phone. When we met with them they were extremely hospitable, they were really nice to us and they were looking forward to having him come, but it just didn't work out that way. I have nothing but good things to say about Atria. The guy I worked with was exceptional and through all of this we communicated and he went out of his way to be helpful to my brother. He even drove him up to San Francisco to try and get his medical records, which was way beyond his call of duty. From my experience with them, they get high marks. We toured the facility and were able to speak with some of the staff. It's the kind of place that I wouldn't mind living myself. They had a beautiful setting, overlooking the valley and so on. The accommodations were great, not just in terms of the apartments, but the community as well. The overall layout was really really nice too. It just would have been helpful if they emphasized in the beginning the importance of having his medical record. We could have requested his medical record in advance and avoided this whole ordeal.
