I went on a tour of Best Care Senior Living at Port Richey. The people were very, very nice, very accommodating, and very pleasant. But the rooms were so small and not very well taken care of, though the staff told me that they're doing renovations and whatnot. The area that it's in is more industrial, there's not a lot you're able to do there. The person who gave the tour was wonderful. Their lawn wasn't very well-maintained, the bushes weren't kept up, and it just wasn't a place that I would like to live. They had an area that looked like little townhouses and the rooms are inside the townhouses. They had one big dining room where you could go sit and eat, which was nice because you could visit with people. They had a list of different activities that they have for the month, they also had a menu and an alternate menu. So if it's something you didn't want, you could order something different.

Best Care Senior Living at Port Richey was not a bad facility. From what we saw, the rooms were nice. They had plenty of space. They had a kitchen on-site. We got information that said, "Unfortunately, we're not going to be able to take him." There was a shared room. It appeared to be well-kept, but we saw a model room. We saw somebody's room that they allowed us to take a look at. They provide beds, but they do not provide dressers or anything like that. There were some people watching television. They didn't give us a tour of the outdoor areas. They basically gave us a tour of the interior. It is currently being remodeled. We went to the one place that had already been finished. They were going to be working on the other places, as well as their parking lot. Their parking lot was really, really in bad shape. They had lots of big potholes.

I called there to get some information from them. When I called I was greeted by a gentlemen who then turned me over to one of the most rude and disrespectful woman I have every spoke with. Never have I been yelled at like that and hung up on. Tied calling back to see who I spoke with and no one...

The Cottages of Port Richey was a very nice place. There's not a lot in each cottage; it's like a cottage of maybe five residents. They're all like little houses and they all have their own rooms, but they eat together in a small area, which we felt was very good because with having a small amount of people in that area, they'll get more attention. We met the workers there, and they seemed very, very nice.

I''ll never forget what happened one week after moving my father into this place. He walked off the property and no one even knew until I called them after the New Port Richey Police dept. called me, asking me where my father lived because he was with one of their police officers. Not just for a few minutes either, my father was gone for HOURS enough to complete a banking transaction. My father had a stroke 2 days later and they called for medical transport. Not 911, but basic medical transport to take him to get checked out. After that, my father could not even return to the facility because now he needed nursing care 24/7. Getting his personal belongings out of the facility was a nightmare, they lost his id, and they still to this day have a music organ on the property I was never able to retrieve. I called several state agencies to report it, but beware; if you place your loved one in an independent living facility, that facility cannot be held responsible if your loved one just walks off the property, because it is "independent" living. I tried to get a hold of the director several times throughout the fiasco and he would never return my calls. I lived more than 3 hours from my father and he could not live in apartment anymore and I thought this was a good option. It was a nightmare as soon as he moved in.

Horrible!
