Deborah G Source - A Place for Mom May 2022

Eternal thanks to [name removed] and her staff at Charlotte Bethel House for caring for mom until her final days. [name removed] closely monitored mom and how her body was responding to prescribed medications. She advocated for quality care and consulted with her doctors to ensure that mom was getting the best balance of medication. Mom was able to maintain dignity as her caregivers provided consistent, loving attention to her needs although her physical strength and mental health were declining. Mom could be resistant at times, but she was always treated with the utmost respect. [name removed] understood that mom came from a generation when elders were never called by their first name, so she always addressed her as Ms. ____. She would say, “Now , Ms. ___ , I’m gonna need you to let these ladies help you. Stop fighting with them because that haven’t done nothing but be nice and try to help you. You can’t try to do everything by yourself anymore, so let them do their job and help you.”

We all laughed when we saw that mom had finally met her match and couldn’t just walk over Roxanne.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ I am so thankful that my mom was able to spend her remaining days on this earth in their care. The nature of an in home setting with fewer occupants eased the stress on her and took some of my guilt away as I knew I found the best place for her. The staff was able to work with her food, mobility, and medication requirement as well. They treated her with the utmost respect clear through to her last day with us. They never once treated her as just a patient or bed occupant. I would recommend Bethel House to anyone struggling with the difficult decision of long term care for an aging loved one.
