We went to The Glenn of Minnetonka. The staff was very accommodating. The unit was extremely well taken care of. Even the garage was very clean. You could almost eat off the floor. I was very impressed with how well the unit was taken care of. They offered lots of activities and they have a hairdresser, a workout room, and a place for art activities. They're within walking distance of the grocery store, which is very nice. There's a nice restaurant that's right across the street from where they are. It was during lunchtime, so the residents were coming out of the elevator. They're good-sized elevators and I think there were at least 10 or 11 people with walkers that went out of one elevator. The couple of residents I talked to seemed happy. Even the housekeeper that let us in and showed us where to go was very, very accommodating and nice. The location is a plus or a minus. It's very busy. The backside is right at the grocery store and there are a lot of activities that we normally don't like, but the front side was very nice and quiet. The units were smaller than we wanted.

The Glenn is very comfortable and well run.

It looked very nice, it's Catholic oriented, and he would have his own apartment. Just down the elevator, there would be a library and all the other things, like the restaurant and place to get his haircut. The key person was Pam and she was terrific. When it comes to the meals, he would be able to pick and choose it. They publish a page that shows what's served each day. If there's something served on Tuesday night for dinner that appeals to him, he could just choose to go to dinner Tuesday night and pay for that independently.

My mom was a resident of The Glenn of Minnetonka. They had one side assisted, and then the others at the other side of the hall. When you got off you, you felt like people were separated. The staff, as far as the nurses, they were good. They were very attentive and were able to work together to help her. The only thing I didn't care about was the separation of the Independent and the assisted sides of it, but the rooms were very nice. The thing I liked about them that's different is the assisted amenities. They had house cleaning, and the house cleaning also came with two loads of wash a week. That was nice, and that was included in the price; that's different from other places. It's very new and well-maintained. The only issue I had, that would probably not give it a five-star is the administration, the people down in the office. The janitors there were so sweet, whenever I needed something done to help with, whether it be the TV or something fixed, they were very generous, always there, and very helpful. The place is clean, it didn't have any strong smells. If there's something that needed to be fixed, it was done right away. They have a nice little common area down on the main level there. It's not very big. One of the things that they don't have, that I didn't like, is they don't have elderly care. People move in there and they're hoping to have some kind of help down the road; they don't have that. Overall, it was a fairly nice place. It was convenient. I give that rating for staff, because of the administration being included in there. Unless you want to accept that there's some way we can separate the administration from the rest of them, because the staff overall was great, and the administration was mediocre at best. The food was fine, my mom always complained about it, but it was fine. Their activities were hit or miss. They didn't change it up a whole lot while my mom was there; that was always the same. Back to the staff thing, we would do the once-a-year evaluation, and the head nurse in there, I didn't care for him. I liked the actual nurses that took care of my mom, but the head person that oversees them, would say, "Well, she has dementia, and she doesn't participate." Well, if you're the nurse and if she's got dementia, then it's going to be a lot harder. I didn't like their approach with my mom's situation as far as maybe trying to suggest ways. It was not a real positive experience with a person, and that person is no longer there, by the way. They're not as expensive as some of the other places; I would say the pricing is probably right there. That's probably why they don't have elderly waivers because they keep their prices low to keep people there. They're not cheap, but they're not the highest.

The Glenn is a great place for your loved ones. We moved my mother (Barbara) into the Glenn after coming to the realization that she needed some assistance and living on her own was no longer a practical reality. Having the peace of mind of available 24 hour care was paramount, but what she received from the experience was so much more. Mom had just been diagnosed with a terminal illness a year previous to moving in to the Glenn and her quality of life was going downhill fast. The Glenn changed that and encouraged my mom to live as fully as possible. The community there is amazing!! It is filled with caring people that help each other, encourage involvement and participation, and they became great friends to my mom. Social opportunities abound, and the vibrancy of residents and staff is warming. That community, and staff are largely responsible for providing my mom with a happy and fulfilling final few years. It’s important to understand that the whole experience of living at the Glenn is so much more than the sum of it’s parts. Sure, they have good processes, have available help and scalable services (which were of GREAT help to my mom) but it’s the people there that go the extra mile and make the difference. They front desk staff is nothing short of amazing and inspires trust. The maintenance guys are conscientious and caring. (Did you catch that? Even the maintenance staff gets to know the residents and CARES!) The nursing staff are skilled, caring and very empathetic. The support staff rock and take each resident’s comfort seriously... and they are all led by the confidence-inspiring Campus Coordinator, Shanna S. I know what you are thinking,... “wow this review is too good to be true!” I can assure you, every word of it is fact and I benefitted from 3 more years with my mother because she was able to live in a place that cared, encouraged her to grow and with a community that embraced her with open arms. Lastly, this review would not be complete without addressing how The Glenn confronted Covid-19. The policies were strict ...and they saved lives. They were secure and kept their residents safe. My mom was perhaps one of the most vulnerable residents in the facility and she was kept safe. They spared no expense and instituted systems to ensure minimal opportunities for spread. Yes, it’s difficult when you can’t see your loved ones ...but that can be said for everyone, everywhere during a pandemic. I am grateful for Shanna’s leadership and conscientious efforts of all the staff there to keep everyone safe.

My mother lived in the Fireside Care Suites at The Glenn Minnetonka for a year, before she passed away. I can’t say enough about how well she was cared for there. From the nursing staff, to the personal care aides, to the activities staff, to the administrative staff, I had nothing but positive interactions with them. When my mother passed away, I was struck at how emotional the aides in the Care Suites were as they extended their condolences to me. Given the ages of the Care Suites residents, the staff are no doubt accustomed to residents passing away. So the fact that they teared up showed me how much they cared ABOUT my mother as a person, not just how well they cared FOR her as a client/resident. And when the COVID pandemic hit and family members of other senior facilities were left wondering and uninformed about what was happening in the facility, the Glenn Minnetonka administrator promptly began providing weekly email updates to residents and their family members. I can recommend The Glenn Minnetonka without reservations.
