I feel a responsibility to let others know the experience our family had trying to find the ideal place for our loved one to have quality of life, with dignity and respect for the last years of life. After years of at home care we looked for an environment that would be inclusive, providing health care as well as socialization for mental health. Our loved one was so excited to have dining friends although the meals were said to be poor. With family meetings to review the care requirements we were assured their facility was the perfect fit for our loved one's care. Unfortunately any agreed upon 'care plan' was tossed out for a 'care of convenience'. There was not the agreed upon bathroom assists, instead diapers were put on our loved one who was not incontinent upon arriving to the facility. The medical management was not managing the basic needs of the care, but instead reacting with change to medication when blood pressure and blood sugars were out of line. In the short time as a resident, our loved one had to ambulance rides to the ER. The first, the first responder approached the family indicating that our loved one laid on the floor so long the blood had dried to the skin. The second trip to the ER, three doctors approached family members indicating our loved one was being admitted with a 'traumatic injury', with a dietician indicating our loved one was severely malnourished and dehydrated. Our loved one was sharp however the physical challenges required the change from home care to assisted living care. Sunrise of Des Peres was recommended because they had a higher level of license that allowed them to provide a higher level of care and staffing that was trained to provide the higher level of care. The license doesn't ensure the people providing the care are qualified. It was a rare occurrence that a staff member would actually interact with our loved one. Instead they had their ear buds in and would be oblivious to any words, conversations or even trying to establish a relationship or earning trust with our loved one. We encountered a single care provider that actually showed compassion to our loved one. What initially was an exciting opportunity for our loved one to live final years with pride, in the comforts and privacy of an apartment, having the social relationships desired turned into stripping our loved one of any pride, dignity in how our loved one looked and was able to present to others, and too many terrible medical issues that were not encountered through our experience with home health care. I write this as a responsibility to others to keep looking at other facilities. Our loved one is no longer with us.

After a year of frustrating situations, we had to remove my father from this facility. He had situation after situation where the staff was rude to him, and the response time when he tried to get help was unacceptable. He had multiple falls, and on the last one, the report given by the staff to the management was not what actually occurred. We had received high recommendations for this facility, but were disappointed time after time in the quality of care. Granted, part of the issue was the inability to keep the facility fully staffed during a difficult time in the world, but the bad attitude and the inconsistency were more than we could deal with in the end.

My aunt used to live here and it was a really nice place to visit. Always felt very homey.

Great community! It is a beautiful place to live with a great staff. They have great activities for the residents to participate in!

My family has nothing but great things to say about Sunrise. Despite coming highly recommended we did our due diligence when it came time to have Mom make the move and found first hand how well run and how good everything is here. It was an easy choice to make and were glad we did. Responsive staff, great care, extensive activities, good size rooms and public areas, bright and pleasant surroundings, very nice dining and family areas with a good meal service. Staff friendly and accommodating and we really liked the other residents. We couldn''t have asked for more. Sunrise is an excellent residence and a great choice.

My father has lived here for 2 years, and he tells me often how much he enjoys living here. The staff is very friendly, their number one priority is the health, safety, and well-being of the residents. Communication between staff and family members is good, and they''ve handled the challenging situation with the pandemic very well. The atmosphere is very warm and inviting, much like an individual''s home. Dementia can be very challenging for the person experiencing it and their families, and the peace of mind Sunrise of Des Peres provides is a blessing to all.
