We tried to get someone into Sugar Hill but were denied entry in innumerable ways. 1. First he was denied for financial reasons, while he is not wealthy he had the financial resources to cover all expenses for more than ten years. 2. Then he was denied for health reasons - because he wouldn't be in independent living long enough, But they wouldn't define what long enough was. 3. Then again for financial reasons after his income and resources were updated including his VA pension which would kick in once his other resources dropped below a certain level. 4. They wouldn't let him buy a cottage and move into it with someone who was capable of assisting him when and if the need arose (and the person was age eligible for living there). 5. Then it was health reasons again. They said he didn't need to be in assisted living but wouldn't let him into independent living. And while they acknowledge he qualified for VA care services if and when he need them and other residents in independent living utilized them they still would not allow him into independent living. 6. Then it went back to financially unqualified after his children each committed $50,000 to his assets. When asked what he need to do to qualify financially they would not provide any clear direction. In fact at one time we were told his assets needed to be greater (not by how much - just greater) and at another time we were told he needed more monthly income. It was an incredibly frustrating, nontransparent and demoralizing process over many months. It was totally unsatisfactory for the applicant and his family. This is the only senior community in this town unless you are low income. When they were told he was accepted at other places he had looked at -- they said good, then he can go there; and when it was pointed out he didn't want to go an hour away from his family and community - they didn't care. In spite of being a nonprofit organization they feel no need to serve middle income community members. They say they care but their actions and decisions are in total contradiction to what they are saying.

This place is wonderful, we have had no complaints. The staff is super friendly they are very professional. It is a pretty expensive community. There aren't really any care services provided since it is Independent living but they do have about 10 rooms in this facility they do provide care, but the...

This place is wonderful, we have had no complaints. The staff is super friendly they are very professional. It is a pretty expensive community. There aren't really any care services provided since it is Independent living but they do have about 10 rooms in this facility they do provide care, but the waiting list to get one of those rooms is on going, it would take years to get one of those rooms. As of right now, no residents have had COVID-19!

My father, brother and I visited Sugar Hill as scheduled and were greeted warmly by the staff. They were all friendly and outgoing introducing us to other staff and residents. The facility was clean and looked well managed and maintained. We viewed available units and activities residents were participating in. My father participated in one of the activities. We ate lunch in the dining area along with the residents. [Name removed], the head nurse, explained options, pricing and answered all our questions. The nursing staff all work for Huggins Hospital in Wolfeboro which is a plus. We spent a total of two hours touring the facility. Other than the pricing, we were very pleased with what we experienced.

Loved the apartments and people there. Very friendly environment. Surroundings kept up nicely. On the costly side to stay there.
