My husband, who’s Hispanic, went for a job interview here today. As soon as he walked in, the hiring manager, Katie, had already hit him with the, “I’m doing other job interviews and I will be in touch with you.” So that was a NO. I called to ask her if she already made her decision about him. She told me she could not answer that. Then I said okay, that must be a no then, probably because you looked at him and decided no based on the color of his skin. She hung up. I called back and I told her I would be filing a discrimination complaint. She hung up again. I know it’s not my husband’s experience, education, or demeanor because my husband actually RECORDED his interview with Katie and she didn’t even ask him any questions. My husband was personable and polite. She hardly said a word. Only “I will be in touch.” He has several years and is almost OVER qualified for the position. So, long story short, if you’re Black or Hispanic, know that YOU WILL be discriminated against.

Clean facility and friendly staff

My mom really liked it there. The staff was extremely helpful, patient, and friendly. I felt very comfortable that she was safe and happy.

Staff have been caring and kind to my mom and also to me with the transition for my mom from independent living and making her feel welcome and comfortable.

Although my mother couldn't move into Abbington of Powell because of her dementia behavioral problems, I felt compelled to write this review due to the efforts and professionalism of [name removed], the facilities manager. From the minute I walked into the facility I was impressed with the professionalism and friendliness of all of the staff. After a tour, I sat down with [name removed] to talk about my mother. Amazingly, due to his contacts in the industry, he had met her on visit to the facility where she currently resides. He went to extreme efforts to work with me on a timeline to move her to Abbington. He offered suggestions and guidance on dealing with Medicare. He was willing to work with my timeline as to when she needed to move in. When he said he was going to call me or was going to do something for me, he did it. This is something that I find is lacking in many of the facilities I have visited. Unfortunately for my Mom, her behavior precluded her from moving to Abbington of Powell. When [name removed] found out that information, he called me on a Saturday morning from his home. When [name removed] called me to give me the bad news, he had contacted numerous other facilities to attempt to help me find a place for her at the level of care she needed. Again, he did this on a Saturday while he was home with a sick child. He has since touched base with me to see how my search is going. The facility at Abbington of Powell is exceptionally clean and nice. I am sad that my Mom can't become a resident there because I could see that the level of care, compared to many other facilities I've visited, is exceptional. I would recommend this facility to anyone who has an aging parent, spouse or even for your own needs. Thanks [name removed] for your professionalism and for your care and concern.
