The assisted living area of Sunrise of McCandless was pretty nice. It's a big facility, so it's got a lot of activities. It's got the salon type thing, and it's got places where people can go and watch TV or go to activities rooms. They try to keep people active. They have elevators so they can get up and down. It's a three-story building. On the memory care issue, they have it locked. So, you can't get in and out as easily for the memory care, but they still have lots of activities and it's pretty clean. It's a newer building, not super new, but it's newer than some of the other ones. It's a big facility, so they've got lots of amenities and stuff. We had a pretty good talk with the lady there, her name was Mary. She did a good job of doing the tour. We didn't see the dinner or anything like that, but we did get a good tour of it and lots of good amenities. They seem to be trying to keep all their residents active. They've got an area where they have a lot of grounds around them. They had snacks all over the place, so you could get a snack if you wanted to.

Sunrise of McCandles would have been our second choice. We knew them prior to visiting because we had other family members who stayed here and they had a great experience. My husband had dementia and could get aggressive and they were not set up to deal with that type of behavior, so we felt this wa...

Sunrise of McCandles would have been our second choice. We knew them prior to visiting because we had other family members who stayed here and they had a great experience. My husband had dementia and could get aggressive and they were not set up to deal with that type of behavior, so we felt this was not going to be the right fit for him. But due to other past experiences, it is a great place and we had no issues with them.

Sunrise of McCandless was an older facility and seemed kind of drab. It just didn't seem lively enough for my loved one, who is full of life. The staff was more laid back, and I just wasn’t impressed with the level of activity available.

we really like the overall openness of the community, its very bright and welcoming not gloomy at all. The staff are great and keep up with communication any time something happens to our loved one. The place is pretty much immaculate.

They keep the pools closed all summer and winter, so do not expect to wear a bathing suit or short sleeved shirt.

Overall we're pretty happy with them and have had a positive experience, but I do think it's a little expensive. I think the environment is nice - the facility looks nice.
