Detailed Information

The Haven at Springwood, York PA

The Haven at Springwood is a premier senior living community in York, PA. The residence provides everything a person needs to enjoy active and healthy retirement living. It offers assisted living services and memory care programs, each staffed twenty-four hours a day for maximum peace of mind.

A typical assisted living resident at the Haven at Springwood needs help with two or three activities of daily living. They live in one of the community’s studio or suite-style apartments, where caregivers assist them each day. Incoming residents can choose from one of four senior housing floor plans, each including:

  • Private bathrooms

  • Wheelchair accessible showers

  • Closet space

  • Spacious living room/bedroom combination

  • Semi-private rooms, for cohabiting residents

Residents may live alone, with their spouse, or with a roommate. The community offers companion suites as a money-saving solution for incoming residents, where two compatible people share one apartment. They share the same bathrooms and living areas, and have semi-private rooms for themselves.

Affordability aside, many older adults prefer cohabiting because living in a private suite can be lonely. Roommates give residents constant social interaction, improving their brain vitality and their day-to-day mood.

The memory care community offers a unique spin on residential living. It offers structured programs and activities to nurture residents with Alzheimer’s disease and dementia, creating a soothing and safe environment for them to thrive. Memory care residents have access to the same personal care services and amenities as assisted living, including:

  • Medication management

  • Assistance with activities of daily living

  • Emergency call systems

  • Housekeeping

  • Laundry and linen services

  • Nutritious meals, served three times daily

Residents love the Haven at Springwood’s one-of-a-kind dining room, where they enjoy communal meals for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. The dining room is a large barn, converted into a beautiful restaurant-style facility offering vintage looks and a distinct experience.

A breakfast buffet is available every morning, and the dining room staff cook fresh, home-style meals for lunch and dinner. The menu rotates monthly, offering seasonal classics and an ever-changing variety of timeless recipes.

Social activities are a big part of life at the Haven at Springwood. Their community events include:

  • Game nights

  • Arts and crafts sessions

  • Group hikes and outings

  • Pet therapy

  • On-site lectures

  • Musical performances

  • Fitness classes

The organization encourages residents to participate in the social activities that interest them, giving them a chance to meet others and integrate with the community. Many residents make close friends at these events, while others learn new skills and nurture hobbies.

To learn more about the Haven at Springwood, read the community's frequently asked questions below.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Q: How do I know if the Haven at Springwood is right for me?

Each person is different, and the senior care programs that will help one individual may not help another. The Haven at Springwood is a community-based residential care facility and is distinctly different than a nursing home. Before applying, prospective residents and their families can ask themselves a few questions to see if an assisted living community or personal care facility like the Haven at Springwood is a viable option:

  • Can the person get around on their own?

  • Does the person need medical attention on an ongoing basis?

  • Does the person have Alzheimer’s disease or dementia?

  • Does the person require rehabilitation?

A person must be ambulatory to live at the Haven at Springwood. Nursing homes provide safer, more secure environments for bedridden individuals and are more suitable than assisted living centers.

The same goes for individuals who require ongoing medical attention. Assisted living services are not tailored for people with chronic injury or illness, and they are not a suitable alternative to skilled nursing facilities in such cases. The Haven at Springwood's staff can provide medication management, but may not assist with injections, colostomy maintenance, and other skilled nursing services.

However, the community offers an exceptional short-term rehabilitation program. Their rehab services include speech therapy, occupational therapy, and physical therapy for up to 100 days. To learn more about the community’s rehabilitation programs, make an inquiry above for detailed information.

The best way to find out if the Haven at Springwood is a suitable senior care option is to tour the community. Schedule a tour above to see the residence in-person, sample their meals, and speak to their staff about their residential living. The staff give knowledgeable insight and help prospective residents learn if the Haven at Springwood is the right choice for them.

Q: How do I know if myself or my family member needs memory support?

Memory support services (also known as dementia care) help older adults with Alzheimer's disease and dementia live their best lives. The dementia care unit provides medication management and housekeeping like independent living and assisted living, with additional services tailored for individuals with memory loss.

Each person who applies to the Haven at Springwood must speak with a care adviser prior to admission to determine their level of care. The care adviser uses a pre-admission assessment to place the person into the right program. If the pre-admission assessment shows symptoms of memory loss or Alzheimer's disease that require dementia care, the community may recommend they live in the memory support community.

Q: Does the Haven at Springwood offer short-term care programs?

The Haven at Springwood offers respite care for non-residents up to 30 days and short-term rehabilitation services for up to 100 days. To learn more about the community’s respite care and rehabilitation programs, make an inquiry above for detailed information.

Q: How much does the Haven at Springwood cost?

It varies. Each person pays a base rental fee that covers the cost of their apartment, basic housekeeping, and their meals. The community assesses additional fees for add-on services, like rehabilitation.

The community’s price range varies by floor plan and by each person’s care requirements. Prospective residents can use the “Get Pricing” tool above to get a personalized cost estimate, according to their care needs and preferred floor plan.

Q: Is the Haven at Springwood pet-friendly?

Residents may have one small pet, within the community’s guidelines. Most small cats and dogs are approved if they are quiet, clean, and well-behaved. Prospective residents should make an inquiry with the community, describing their pet in-detail to find out if it falls within their guidelines. Service dogs of all sizes and breeds are welcome at the Haven at Springwood, in accordance with the ADA’s requirements.

Q: How does retirement living at the Haven at Springwood compare to other personal care homes in York, PA?

Each retirement living community is unique. The Haven at Springwood's staff, spacious assisted living units, and timeless barn-style restaurant make it stand out from the crowd as one of the area's most highly-reviewed communities.

According to customer reviews, the Haven at Springwood is a top assisted living community in Pennsylvania. It is ranked in the top 30% of assisted living communities in the state, and residents say the premises is clean, beautiful, and inviting from the moment they walk in.

The Haven at Springwood's pet friendly policy is a major attraction for some older adults. Many personal care homes do not allow pets on-site, making the Haven at Springwood a clear choice for people who want to keep their pets when they move into a personal care facility.

Scheduling a tour of the facility is the best way for someone to get a glimpse of life as a Haven at Springwood resident. Seeing the facility in-person can help families compare it to other senior living communities in the vicinity. Tours include:

  • Walkthroughs of assisted living units with various floor plans

  • Complimentary meal in the dining room

  • Question and answer session with the staff

A happy and respectful environment! I understand they received a Deficiency Free Annual State Survey again! Congratulations, well deserved! The residents look very happy and well kept and the staff always says high when visiting! I would recommend to any family or friends looking for a loved one!

I would like to thank the loving and caring staff at the memory care unit at Beacon Place. For an example of the caring staff: on Fasnacht Day a staff member was that kind that she brought in fresh fasnachts for the residents. You can not imagine the joy the residents had eating these delicious treats.

From the moment we spoke, I knew the Haven at Springwood approached aging from a whole new perspective that is not only refreshing but critically insightful to preserving one's dignity and sense of self-worth. By refusing to segregate people based on their failing memories in a secured memory care wing, thereby calling attention to what your loved one is already painfully aware of, Springwood has achieved something remarkable by choosing instead to provide freedom within a safe, yet secure, environment. Residents are "taught" to look out for and help each other, which has a positive trickle- down effect, regardless of physical disability and/or stage of dementia. Staff and residents alike were warm and welcoming to my mother when she arrived at the end of January and what could have been a traumatic move has turned out to be a warm and nurturing environment where we have all seen significant improvement in her overall well-being. Unlike Springwood, many assisted living facilities take the stance that once you receive a diagnosis of dementia you automatically get assigned to a secured memory care unit and are not given an opportunity to see how you would do in the general population. This kind of an environment was not helpful to my mother who valued her independence and only exaggerated her frustrated emotions and behaviors, given that she was keenly aware that her memory was failing. It is unfortunate that this inflexibility turns out to be prevalent throughout many of the facilities we visited in our attempt to move our mother closer to where my brother and I live, revealing an insensitivity and lack of a true understanding of the frustration these people feel - until we met Marlo Sweigert at Springwood. Not only does she believe strongly in capitalizing on people's strengths rather than their weaknesses but she will go to bat for your loved one to give them a chance to once again look forward to each day - rather than feeling "what's the point". My Mom's apartment is bright, warm and inviting with a wonderful picture window view of a farmer's field. Hallways are inviting with small comfortable gathering nooks and a large library room on each floor. Likewise, the dining room is amazing - high ceilings, wood beams and a massive stone fireplace at one end - reminiscent of a ski lodge. She has a wonderful table mate who has been helpful in getting my Mom to come out of her shell. My Mom, who always used to say her favorite thing to do was to make reservations for dinner, thinks it is a wonderful restaurant and loves the fact she can choose the next day's lunch and dinner from a small printed menu. Activities are also plentiful for those who wish to avail themselves of them, including a movie theater, and a bistro for a mid-afternoon snack. There is absolutely no question as to why Springwood has achieved a perfect score from the State- something very hard to do- their whole approach to aging thrives on dignity and respect for all. It is clear from the moment you walk through the door that there is a healthy vibe between those who not only live there but with those who also work there.

My grandparents are very particular and my family is just as particular when they were looking for a new place for my grandparents to live! We all looked at many options for them and the minute we walked into The Haven at Springwood the vibe was completely different! It is a clean, modern, friendly, comfortable place to live and visit for everyone! My Grandparents LOVE it here and they are so busy all of the time and grateful that they are worry free! The entire family is grateful that we all are now worry free. There is so much to do and the staff is exemplary. We would always recommend The Haven to anyone.

My dad moved to this community because I was impressed with the residents themselves and their reaction to being there. They seemed happy and some of them even reached out to me to say this is a nice place. They seemed content and taken care of. It seemed like a friendly place and a place where he would be happy. I think I am getting a good value compared to the other places. I just visited with him this week and it seems like he likes to park himself by the front door. I was a little concerned at first, so I asked the receptionist if he tried to high tail it out. She told me that no they keep a close watch on the residents. I really appreciated that they watched him closely. His needs there are being taken care of. I am not concerned that he will get lost or fall and break something. The food portions are big and good. The food selection seems to be good. The staff has been very accommodating. If I mention to them that my dad isn't supposed to have something, they fix it. They are prompt and friendly. The selection of activities is good. I ask him if he is going to things and people are taking him to some activities. There are appropriate and good activities. When I go to his room it seems clean. It is vacuumed and doesn't smell bad. Someone is doing his laundry and it is put away for him which I appreciate. It is all getting done. He said that he had someone come because there was a problem with his toilet and that was resolved. Maintenance is responsive. The nurse has been attentive to my questions and concerns about his medication, the transfer of his medication and changes in his medication. Whoever is making sure that his daily cleanliness is being attended to is doing a good job. He gets a rash if he isn't washed frequently and it is being done properly. It has all been very good. The residents continue to seem happy and they talk to me and him when we are in the halls. I think that shows that they are well adjusted and being well cared for.

I think the prices at Haven at Springwood are good. It's still cheaper than other places, the community itself is nicer than other places and my mother's apartment is perfect. The front desk is always very nice when I sign in, sign her out or if I need anything. The activities are great, the activity staff is so friendly and they go out of their way to do anything, so they're just the nicest people. My mom goes to devotion every day; she does Bingo and gets her nails done so she participates. Housekeeping is really attentive towards her and they do stuff for her that is unnecessary. The building is beautiful, always well-kept and if you ask maintenance to do something, they do it. Regarding her care, all of the girls are just so kind. They're so attentive and they know when she is out of medications, so everyone there goes out of their way for all of the residents. There is always someone around and if they don't know something, they'll go and find out. Overall, everyone is very nice and the whole atmosphere is very wonderful, so I really have nothing bad to say about the community. She truly loves it there and I think it was the best move for us.

My in laws were both residents at the Haven. My father in law was only there for 4 days before he passed away. My mother in law has dementia and upon our request was moved from a double room to a single room. The staff was very supportive of her move. She received great care and attention. She really liked the activities and the staff. Her dementia has progressed so now she is in the Memory Care Unit and seems very content in this setting. The staff took care of her entire move to this unit. The staff is wonderful in this Unit and she enjoys the activities and the food. The Haven has a very bright and welcoming lobby and the rooms are a good nice size. We had checked out several other assisted living facilities in the area and this one was superior to the others.

My grandmother chose this community after visiting friends a few times; it felt genuine. We have dealt with the director and marketing and they were great. The head of housekeeping and maintenance guy have been incredibly helpful as well. Housekeeping makes sure the whole place is clean. It doesn’t have a smell. Her room is great and seems well taken care of. The maintenance staff was helpful with her phone right away. The hung her pictures up for her. They have been great. The activities department has a great variety of things to do at all interest levels. The care staff has been very attentive and are there for us when ask or call with questions.

They have movies, music and my grandmother is always doing something and having a good time. My grandmother really likes the activity on Sunday where they paint their nails. The value is great and my grandmother is definitely worth the money. My grandmother is extremely happy there and that's all that matters.

She had a hard time with the roommate and Brandy was able to change the whole atmosphere. That was a really positive thing to witness. I think overall the staff has been really helpful in helping her adjust. My mom has been receiving good care. I am happy with it. The building always looks well maintained. Management is quick to respond to phone calls and concerns. If they do not know something right away they will find it out and get back to me. The activities my mom has participated in have been nice and the calendar of activites looks wonderful. Everything has been perfect with housekeeping. I cannot say enough good things about it. Maintenance had an issue with flooding in the apartment above my mom's. They were right on the spot and came in immediately to clean up and scrub the carpets. The few times my mom has had to use the transportation, they were on time and safe. The caregivers have been great. It has been very good for my mom and the staff could not be any nicer.

Overall the place is very well maintained. The grounds are always well-kept, the building is always clean and bright. I think it's pretty trouble-free. Everyone's been very helpful at the front desk. I haven’t had to interact with executive Management since month one, but I would say everyone is very attentive. Dad seems to like participating in the bus trips. He said there was a nice singing group in that day and he likes Happy Hour on Fridays. I think there's a good variety of activities. Overall dad says they are trying to feed him, he's not lacking any food. I know his laundry is done regularly, with or without his help. The apartment always seems to be clean, trash is emptied. The care staff have been very attentive. They've reached out to me if there were any needs as far as the pharmacy or any of the other supplies dad may need. They've done a nice job keeping me informed. They've done an excellent job with keeping his meds timely. Overall, dad is comfortable and safe.

We chose thins community because the community is kept so well, it's more upscale than a typical Assisted Living community. It's probably less than some communities, and more than others. The rooms are lovely, and the bathrooms are spacious. My mom is safe and comfortable. The staff seems to be very friendly. I think the nurses there and the care staff are very helpful. There is a lot of entertainment and mom gets into that. They have a lot of entertainers come in. They do have a variety of activities. I think the housekeeping is excellent, and the community is beautiful and well-kept. The price is well within the limits of the services mom's getting.

I do think it's a fair value for the services she's receiving. My mom likes the dining room and the food. The food is hot, and she has someone to talk to. It seems to be decent variety, decent food. They have plenty of activities. She goes to the religious service and the nail salon. Housekeeping does do a good job. It's clean, it doesn’t smell, and they do a good job. They take care of her laundry. The caregivers are courteous, polite, they keep track of her meds, and they contact us if there is any issue, so we're happy with that. Maintenance is very competent and does a good job. We're pretty happy with the place.

One of my mom's buddies at the table tells us that she eats everything on her plate, so she loves the food and she eats well. In fact, we may be talking to the Doctor about things because she is putting on weight. She loves the activities and she does quite a few things. She loves the arts & crafts or they'll setup a movie to watch and she watches them with residents. She always liked watching animal movies with her grandchildren, so she loves that. Anytime she has an issue, someone has always helped her and they tell her they don't want her to clean stuff up and instead to tell them to clean it up. Transportation has been good with it and I haven't had any problems. All in all, we are happy to have her there.

I chose The Haven at Springwood because it was reasonably priced, it was close to the hospital and it didn't feel as though it was an institution or hospital it seemed more of a place my sister could make her home. She's going on a field trip this week and I know she's been painting, there are pianos around and she's a musician, she's got her guitars and they've talked about practicing and performing. The caretakers are very good with informing us of anything going on. They do a great job with her room and they pick up her laundry before she even realizes it's gone and already done. We have a sense of relief because she's in a place where she can't harm herself.

They have great personalities and if you push the button, they come right away and help you with your problem. I haven't needed any maintenance, but they seem to be working all the time. I like it here very much.

My mother feels very safe. The pricing is pretty on the dot. They do a lot for her. She is very convenient to the cafeteria and the common room. Her bathroom is two times bigger than she needs. She does a lot of the Bingo type things, which is good. She has it very good there.

It looks like a place I'd like to live. I would recommend it in a heartbeat. The little interaction I've had to have with the management has been great. The incoming process was good. They do a really good job of hiring good people. They are like a family there. She is always very happy, and she is never hungry. She is eating very well and enjoying her meals. The activities people are good. They are getting her involved in stuff so she doesn't just lie in bed and sleep all day, which makes me happy. The whole property looks very nice. Everything always seems very clean and well maintained. The care staff is very good. They call to keep me updated on everything. They are very informative.

The management staff is very good and very involved. They were very helpful getting me oriented and helping my mom get settled in. They were compassionate and reassuring. Sheila is amazing. The caretakers are very caring and treat the residents very well. It feels very much like family in there. They are very prompt on calling me about any changes or notifying me before they contact her doctor. I don't have to worry about anything slipping through the cracks. I'm very happy with them. They're starting to have more family involved events around the holidays, and that's very nice. We enjoy that.

Tiffany and Tonya are very personable and helpful. They're very, very efficient and quick. One housekeeper has really taken my aunt under her wing and has gone above and beyond. I think the variety is really nice, there is lots of music and they started bringing in animals, a pig and maybe a goat, unusual animals sometimes and the residents love them. The front desk is very professional and personable and just aware of everything that's going on. She likes it very much and I've eaten there a few times and enjoy it too. They're very accommodating. All in all it has been a great fit for us.

I think it's good here at the community. I've been in to several things when they had groups come in, and I thought that was always very good. I know my mom doesn't always go down to everything that they have, but I know they have a nice variety of stuff. The activities girls seem to do a good job with what they have. The outside of the community looks good, they keep up with it and the girls that do her meds are usually pretty good about that.

My husband had to go to a nursing home in January for some therapy and we were very happy when he got back to this facility. It is a great value. He has remarked a number of times that the food is good. He enjoys the music. I see maintenance people working in the general area and they do a good job. They have been very helpful. They have great people working in the care unit.

We chose it because she couldn’t live at home, she was diagnosed with Dementia. It's a good value. When you compare it to other facilities we toured you get a lot more, there's a lot more she can do and the space is bigger. I am very satisfied with management. They have been very helpful with her transition and getting her all set up. Healthcare services are doing very well. They make sure she gets her medication and all that. I'm assuming housekeeping and laundry are okay because we haven’t had any issues. So I would say it's good.

Overall, the facility is well taken care of. The management staff seems to be responsive to any questions you raise. When I go to see my mom on a Saturday, she's always in an activity. It seems like they have a good mix of activities. It seems like they have enough for my mom who had a stroke. They seem to have field trips for others who are more able. So it seems like they have a good mix of activities. Overall, I would say they keep it reasonably clean.

Cora, who's in charge of the health and wellness, is very devoted to the residents there and she's been great with talking to me. One main nurse is wonderful, she's just great. Her name is Tonya. She's very good, so I think my mother gets excellent care from her. We took her down to the activities last week for happy hour and she enjoyed going down there for that. The activities director is wonderful, she's just great. The business manager was new after the company purchased them, and she's excellent. "I've always felt that she was safe and comfortable there and overall, I think the Haven is just great.

Value-wise it's about the same as most places. I think the dining is pretty good and so are the activities. Crystal in housekeeping does a great job. I think it's pretty well taken care of now, and overall it looks nice.

The value is good. I checked other facilities and some of them were outrageous. The price here is average. It is not too expensive but not cheap either. The dining room is very nice. They clean my father's room once a week. I like the way the facility looks and it does not smell like a nursing home. It is a very nice place. The maintenance staff responds to requests pretty quickly. The med techs are really attentive and easy to talk to.

I think the management staff does a good job. I've spoken many times with the main person in charge and she's always been very receptive and called me back, and has always taken the time. My mom does participate, and she enjoys it. She goes on the country rides, out to luncheons, and out for ice cream. And one time she event went to the casino with them. I think everything's in good shape. It's a very clean facility, but the stairwells could use some cleaning. If my mother needs anything done, the maintenance staff does it.

My mother seems happier here. She seems more alert and able to do more on her own. I've talked with the director. She helped me when we did the process of doing all the paperwork. It went extremely well. I was in the dining hall once or twice when she was there, and she seemed to like it. I haven't heard any complaints on the food. She participates more now than she had before. They say she's in the bistro a lot and she plays bingo. I saw the list of activities planned for them this month, and I think she'll enjoy most of them. When I was there on Monday her room was all made up and all her clean laundry seemed to be back in her room. I think they're doing an excellent job there. She seems to be really well, getting her medicines and things like that.
