I've visited English Meadows Blacksburg Campus. It's the best that I've seen in terms of the activities that they do, the rooms, the staff, and the happiness of the residents. They have different games. And they have a separate area for that from the dinner and lunch area. They do field trips and things, and they were going to the mall when we were there. We toured the entire assisted living area, and the floor was clean, there was nothing around, and it wasn't dirty.

They did not inform family that in Virginia, side rails are considered a form of restraint. Therefore for an elderly person, this is a safety concern.
They did address Virginia’s DNR laws. They did not ask if my mother had a living will and what her wishes were regarding end of life. Nor did they speak to the family about this. Family knew she had a living will and that she did not want CPR performed in case of cardiac arrest. Because of their disregard and lack of communication, CPR was performed on my mother.

My mom is a resident of English Meadows Blacksburg Campus. In general, we are happy with her there because she is happy. There have been some issues. She had two hospital stays this year because she has a little issue with her heart. They will not let her come back with a heart monitor and we were dissatisfied with that because she might have needed that, turns out she did not, but we learn a lot about that community that we did not know before. But mother loves it there; she is comfortable there, she knows a lot of people there, and she does not want to move again. It was an issue though. In general, we are happy as long as mama is happy and welcome there. But if she has one little thing, she will have to go somewhere else.
We started looking for another place after this first hospital because we thought we would need to move her but after the second hospital stay, they took her back and it worked out fine. They did hear from me, I complained quite a bit about that. She is more of a special lady out there now since they know her daughters' going to watch after her and her and make sure her needs are taken care of. I do have the option of going to the other side if she could not take care of herself, it is more expensive, but the care does not change. They only have two nurses for the whole living center, and so it does not matter whether she is on one side or the other. They only have 2 nurses, one day and one night.
It is a beautiful building and fairly new but if I have a problem with the medicine, I have to talk to whoever's on-call, and sometimes they don't get it right, then I am making three or four calls.
Welcoming atmosphere! Food is excellent in comparison to others I have been to. All inclusive pricing is excellent. Staff are friendly, facility is clean and appears well kept. 1 bedrooms are spacious.
Family night events are well planned and prepared.
Activities are fun and engaging.
Disappointed is the only word I have for this facility. My mother stayed for 5 days of respite care and left in an ambulance after my father found her on the floor, injured and unattended, on the morning she was to be discharged.
Food, atmosphere, and overall good staff.
Billing though, never matched the contract. For both parents to live there for approximately 3 1/2 months (one with level 4 nursing care, the other was healthy) the total bill was around $30K. Challenged management at local and regional levels, and it to...

Billing though, never matched the contract. For both parents to live there for approximately 3 1/2 months (one with level 4 nursing care, the other was healthy) the total bill was around $30K. Challenged management at local and regional levels, and it took a lot to get them to correct "mistakes" in the billing. I would not recommend this facility because of this.
