Horrible experience. My mom was admitted on a Saturday morning for rehab after a stay in ICU. Sooo many things went wrong. She had gotten strong enough to walk to the bathroom with help prior to leaving the hospital. Upon arrival the therapist told her because it was a holiday weekend she would not be evaluated until Tuesday and would not be provided a walker or allowed to ambulate until after the eval on Tuesday. As a acute rehab nurse myself I knew this was not acceptable. Then her call light didn’t work so she was given a COW BELL. The room had been freshly painted and smelled strongly of fumes. Building super old and depressing. I stayed with her till 1am because I was nervous leaving her. Tech told her she couldn’t go to the bathroom cause she wasn’t allowed to walk and kept mumbling some about “left to right”. ???? I got upset and took her myself using stand pivot transfers using the wheelchair since they weren’t allowing her to walk. I left at 1 after being assured by the nurse she would be well cared for. Went back at 5:30 am and she was sitting on the side of the bed crying. They hadn’t answered her COWBELL and she had taken herself to the bathroom. I signed her out AMA that morning. Do NOT let your loved one go to Canon Lodge.

My grandmother was recently at this place and I was skeptical after reading some reviews. My grandmother assured me that she loved the place and was well taken care of, she told me the staff was lovely and the food was great. I called her almost everyday and she always told me she was perfectly comfortable. She said to me she was considering making it a permanent home because she loved the staff but decided against it because she loved her dog more. Once she finished her therapy and was ready to go home, the amount of love and care from the staff really showed. She even told me she got to go across a finish line and got a trophy and everyone was clapping for her and telling her how much they were going to miss her. I am very appreciative to this place for caring for my grandmother and making her feel at home.

Unfortunately, my father had to be in here for 20 days after a nasty fall. There were a couple of positives, he liked the PT guy and the cleaning staff did a great job. The negatives by far outweigh the positives. Immediately on entering the nurse told us they were going to have to send him back to the E.R., a mistake had been made with his prescriptions. Now why on earth he would have to go back or why she did not make sure this was true be for telling us?... I have no idea. He did not end up having to go back. After we had settled in we quickly noticed this was the most depressing building any of us had been in. I am not talking because it is a Nursing Home, It just has a very dark horror movie ambiance. Next, we asked if he could take a shower. We asked every day for 14 days and every day we were told tomorrow. Also, he had been in the hospital with stomach ulcers and none of the nurses had any idea, so they gave him every acidic spicy food that you do not want with ulcers. Toward the end of his stay, he called us and told us he may not be getting his meds that night. We found out after calling that this was the case for all the occupants. A problem with the meds coming from Pueblo. We already knew of this facility''s bad reputation but his Dr. wanted him here for some reason. If god forbid he has to go into one of these places again, there is no chance in hell this will be the one. On a side note, before Covid-19 I called around asking if I could look inside and tour, we were thinking he might end up here, Canon Lodge said no. Skyline Ridge will let you look inside before being admitted, it is much nicer, brighter, and has things to do.
