Mother went to spring lake for rehab after a fall which occurred while she was a resident at Brookdale Asstd living. We were promised mom would be well cared for, attended to and most of all kept safe. All those promises were broken numerous times, and mother fell out of her wheelchair and transported to LRMC. She had a total of six falls...in six months. The staff on mom''s hall was mostly foreign and wearing marks which made communication almost impossible, plus mom was deaf. Instead of trying to use our communication tools, the CNAs would just yell louder at her. Some of the nursing staff were rude and couldn''t even pronounce medications, they were mostly pill pushers....meds were dispensed without first checking vitals, given when residents were clearly comatose from previous dosing. Thankfully mom did have several wonderful, caring nurses and a few compassionate CNAs who actually got to know mom and our family. Mom was left meal trays in front of her when she was clearly unable to feed herself. She was left sitting hours in a wheelchair up next to a wall with other residents in same situation. It was heartbreaking to come in and find her this way. The CNAs have too many residents to be able to appropriately take care of, shower, toilet, dress and feed if necessary, and they are grossly underpaid for the work they do. Our family members and private sitters stayed with mom so that she had someone with her every evening and overnights, because admittedly SL couldn''t provide acceptable care. During week days the nurses and CNA care is much better with activities for residents. During nights and weekends, good luck finding anyone to care for your loved ones. The actual facility is immaculate and the food is good, but if your loved one requires help with medications, toileting, eating, dressing, etc. Do not let the facility''s pristine appearance fool you, it''s like "lipstick on a pig." Joanne at the front desk is a welcoming and caring person. There are too many other wonderful staff members to mention by name, but i hope you know how much your caring for mom meant to us. Reporting medical error that hastened my mothers death. She was not your typical 101 year old and she did not have to suffer this way.

Needless to say I was pedrified about my recovery but can truly say that thanks to the staff here and the OT and PT from Abigail, Whitney Roger and Chris to name just a few of the therap...
