My dad had taken yet another fall at home even though we had great care in place for him. He went to the hospital with nothing broken but I was told he would need “rehab” to get stronger. In my heart I new as a nurse he was failing and recovery was slim to none. I admitted him into Broad Reach “kicking and screaming” in my head and knowing the stay was gonna be as short as possible. Oh boy was this nurse aka daughter so wrong. The care was above and beyond anything I imagined. All, yes I said all the nurses, aides, and the staff that worked in the common areas were amazing. I had my demands like coffee, Gatorade, cookies and chips. Haha his staples, and they saw too it he got it. He was always clean, shaven and dressed and up for meals. Ok was everyday perfect? Of course not but it was a place where I could leave and go away for a few days and or go to work and not worry for sure. Ahhhhhh!!!! I didn’t want him to die there. I wanted him home. But in the end even for this nurse it was going to be too much. Tough call. I stayed with him by his side for his last seven days. I then realized we were home. We were with people that cared for him so I could just love him. If your love one gets a bed at broad reach and there’s no way they can be home—- consider your family lucky enough. This daughter feels lucky enough.

I always was under the impression that Liberty Commons was the best but I did not find that to be the case! I found that the nursing assistants on the 3-11 and 11-7 shifts could use some training in being nice to the residents and not sarcastic and intimidating! I had one assistant, and i wish I could remember her name, who was kind and cheerful ! She was on the 3-11 shift and I so appreciated her kindness! I was hollered at and reprimanded for being incontinent of urine after having my call light on for over an hour by another assistant ! I was a Nursing supervisor at a Nursing Home in I West Yarmouth for over 18 years! I can’t ever imagine the staff speaking to the residents like that
