This place is nothing short of neglectful and abusive to the clients. Urine soaked diapers for over 24 hours while the aides watched tv in the common room, no offer of a tooth brush for three weeks, no AC on 95 degree days, food isn’t edible, family member showered client because he went untouched for three days, no offer to shave, broken tvs, except for PT you never leave your room. Had to leave after three weeks (paid out of pocket for the third week) because billing informed us insurance wasn’t going to cover anymore. Not true. Came home with no plan in place. Home a week and have yet to see an aide or a PT. I wouldn’t leave an animal here. Please don’t leave your loved ones.

Please be VERY careful about sending your loved ones to this facility!!! If I could give it negative stars, I would, and I could not be more sorry that I listened to SBU saying this is a 5 star facility. They charge double per day what any other facility charges and for that you get: a phone system where frustrating is an understatement. They acknowledge there are problems with it but never fix it. It is very hard to get through to anyone and when you leave messages nobody ever gets back to you. I was looking to have my mother transferred to another facility (she was on the dementia floor at the Luxor) and the new facility had a terrible time getting the information they needed from the Luxor. One time they were given a contact to speak with about my mother and that contact did not know who or where she was. The transfer to the new facility was significantly delayed because they would get one answer from one person then a different one from another. They were told she been given a required covid test the week she was supposed to transfer. When the new facility did not get the results in a timely fashion they were informed it had actually been given on Thursday. Then when her doctor at the new facility examined her today what he saw with her did not even closely match what the Luxor told them (the Luxor stated that she is nonverbal, immobile, unable to eat, etc.). I am not a doctor, but even so, just the times I visited her at the Luxor told me that this is absolutely not true. It is quite clear that the Luxor cared not a bit for her and simply left her in her room as long as she was not a problem to them. I could not feel more strongly that this is not the right facility to "care" for anyone's loved ones.

Don't let the fancy freaky name, and what appears to be fake reviews fool you! This place is down right awful! It was crappy when it was Mills Pond and now it's even worse. I have no idea how anyone could rate this place with a high score. The majority of the so called nurses were incompetent. They made mistakes with the meds precovid when I was there with my mom, and yet they never apologized and made it be known that they'd be more careful moving forward. The nurses never once introduced themselves to my mother and, or even said "Hi". I understand you have other patients to attend to but the very least is to be kind. I'm not asking for the nurses to sit down and chat with my mom, but acknowledge your patients and be kind. I witnessed several residents needing help, and having to wait for it for over an hour. Often, it seemed like the nurses aids were no where to be found. The house keeping needs a lesson on how to do their job effectively and efficiently. I blame that on poor communication and management. It would repeatedly happen where they'd dump the garbage pail and then not immediately put a new bag in it. Its like they would do one small thing at a time and then leave and then come back to finish another small part of the house keeping job, plus they appear to be moving at a snails pace. If the usually person who does this stuff is out, then no one else has a clue on what to do or they have that freaking "It's not my job" mentality". The place is so run down, and so sad looking. There is no effort to make this place look and feel warm and welcoming. The main number to contact Luxor is infuriating! It is unbelievable how difficult it is to contact anyone there and their message is blaring and ridiculous! Plus, when you finally get through you have to just leave a message because most of the time no one answers the phone including the main desk and you usually don't get a call back right away. I do believe that there probable are some good people there, but I've not seen anything to rave about accept for very kind and reliable aid named Karen who made it possible for me to face time with my mom a couple of days per week. My mom aged so much being there and I'm so glad she's out. I really hope that people think that one day they may be sick and or old and will need help. They should really think about treating people the way they want to be treated. Karma!!!!

My mother was admitted to this nursing home when it was Mills Pond. It was great back then. We always felt that she was receiving excellent care, our calls and concerns were heard and responded to in a timely manner. Then it became Luxor. A big fancy name for a crappy place. The service has deteriorated rapidly. I’m not sure who’s in charge or what the issues are but I can tell you that the service is now CRAP! It is very obvious that they are short staffed. My mother is abandoned for way too long. She is left in bed for 12+ hours a day. Then when she needs to use a bathroom she is unable to get there. She calls the call button for help and no one comes. Now as of late, when I call the operator to transfer me to a nurse, the phone rings and rings. No one answers. It’s unacceptable. During these tough COVID times it’s impossible to lay eyes on her so we are at their mercy. She has gone blind since she arrived and was finally able to go to an ophthalmologist but now she needs help eating and no one can be bothered to help her. The staff mid week that she has are very kind and do their best. On the weekends and holidays the wheels fall off the bus. It’s terrible. Every weekend there is a new problem that no one helps with. I wish I could move her but being far away has made this whole experience a nightmare. I’m so sad that they have new ownership because it’s very clear that patient care is not the top priority. I called the administrator and left a message months ago... still no return call. He clearly couldn’t care less what I have to say. Shameful. Tonight I called and the phone rang over and over in the endless loop for 30 minutes. Maybe I should call 911????

I am pleased to be able to write this review in support of the quality and outstanding care I received when admitted to the Luxor Rehabilitation and Nursing care Center at Mills Pond in St. James New York. After being in a hospital for several weeks, being treated for an autoimmune disease, unrelated to COVID 19, once stabilized I was transferred to the rehabilitation facility. This would allow me to improve an increased level of independence so that I would be able to go into an Assisted Living center or to go back to my home. I, my wife, and family, as I am sure many of you would, had a great deal of anxiety regarding the adjustment and quality of care I would receive at a rehabilitation and long-term nursing care center. Let me state at the outset, without question, my choice to stay at the Luxor Rehabilitation and Nursing Center was the right choice. From the time I was admitted to the day of my discharge every single individual, everyday, gave me excellent and quality care which during my six month stay reduced my anxiety to zero. You could say that the care given to me was like a well oiled machine, or a pie where every piece fit together perfectly. There was great communication between all departments which assured that the care I received was seamless. I am pleased to say that the level of care I received was far beyond what I expected from a rehabilitation and nursing home. There is an old adage that states, "It is not the job that one does but it is the person that does that job". I wish I could name all of the outstanding caregivers but here are just a few who deserve special recognition: The Housekeeping staff, Social Worker department, Alexa in admissions, Kathy in finance, Kathy in Nursing, Michael and Vicky in administration, Louis, Mary, AnneMarie, and Meghan in Nursing, and especially Yoleen, Shirley, Ansley, and Darlyne, the best Certified Nursing Assistants I could have hoped to have taking care of me. Should anyone need Long Term Rehabilitation or Nursing Care, The Luxor Rehabilitation and Nursing Care Center at Mills Pond in St. James New York is the place to be. I can assure, without question, that those who are there will receive excellent quality care far above and beyond what is expected and which is given to all patients and residents, They will receive empathy, concern, patience, and heartfelt caring. The outstanding staff made a choice to pursue a career path that requires passion, compassion, patience, and discipline, which is currently exacerbated by COVID 19. Most people have an underlying fear of being dependent on someone else for their basic day to day functions, specially with strangers. Those at Luxor were attentive and caring in a way that made even the most vulnerable of situations comforting.

We chose Luxor, for my Mom when she fell and broke her hip, based on the 5 star rating. I am not sure where that rating comes from? We have had nothing but problems there. I am afraid to leave my mother alone. 1) Their records had all incorrect information regarding her injuries. The hospital sent the correct information over to them, we never got an answer what happened. 2) She typically waits 45 minutes before anyone answers the call button. That is just too long. She walks herself to the bathroom with a walker but she cant see too well so that is dangerous. 3) There is no quiet time (lights out) policy. TV's are blaring all night long because so many residents are hard of hearing. She gets no rest. I will say the food is good at least and the physical therapy has been good. This has been a nightmare for the family. I cannot wait for my mother to get strong enough to come home again.

This place Is down right awful. They only have the entrance updated and new for a nice impression but don’t let the fake movie prop fool you, and to rename it some pretentious name like “the Luxor “ so it can sound like way more than what it is is pathetic. They keep the main floor rehab somewhat updated because rehab is their cash cow but you would faint if you went to the Nursing home part of the building. The rooms are worn out and dilapidated. Vertical blinds were missed parts and not working, walls peeling, ceilings stained and overall in serious need of an update. The staff runs hot and cold with some nice CNAs and some that are just down right nasty and ignore immediate needs of the residents. Residents get corralled in the day room so they can be watched at the same time, but they are left there all day without any recreational therapy or any kind of stimulation at all. And seriously, one tv in the day room with “cops” on? Or what ever the CNAs feel like watching. How about music for everyone to listen too? It’s the residents home after all. Residents just wallow, in need of assistance and are ignored. I could go on and on. I’ve voiced my concerns on numerous occasions with things I’ve witnessed but nothing is ever addressed. Needless to say, I will be finding a new place for my mother to reside.
