Wishing I could rate this facility as a negative # My mom was checked in this place a couple of days back and had to call 911 to be transferred back to Duke due the failure of what was expected for her to heal from heart surgery. That will never be a place formy mom or . other family to go.

My review of Parkview Health and Rehab Center is of our experience from March 25-April 8, 2022. Upon reading the reviews and other past personal experiences and experiences from others in this type of facility, we admitted my mother on high alert. This was the only facility with space at the time of hospital release. My family and my mother’s physical therapist were pleased with our experience during this time. Visiting hours are from 9 am – 7 pm and we were there at different times of the day, a few days all day during the visitation block. I was able to meet with the current administrator to express my concerns regarding the reviews here and my other concerns. The admin was very professional and courteous when we met and address the concerns that she could that occurred during her tenure and provided me with other information that put my mind at ease. All the staff (nurses, CNAs, therapists, doctors) that I met were all very friendly and provided compassionate care. The staff on the 800 hall were attentive and came to check on my mother and others within a reasonable time – understand there may be some delay due to shift changes and staff-to-patient ratios. There was nothing to cause the high alert radars to trigger. The front desk staff was extremely helpful and I did notice that the phone was answered most of the time. The physical therapy team did an excellent job. The facility was clean and the food was good. As I mentioned above – my mother’s therapist had some concerns based on a visit here before Covid—she also noticed a change in the atmosphere when she came to visit. Issues: Hard to reach office staff by phone and get a return phone call. Once you connect with anyone the interaction was great and very informative. Handoff to Homecare was not as smooth as it should have been but was quickly rectified. Overall, this was a good short-term care experience. I think the current administrator and the management of the facility at this time are doing a great job providing care and therapy resources to the residents there.

My father was placed in this facility do to their location near the Hospital. He spent one week in a rehab program there. As his health went down on day 7 he told the staff he could not breath. He was told he did not have a fever and he was fine. He was also told to stop hitting the call button for a nurse. The next thing he remembers he was on a stretcher in the hall and EMS was beating on his chest. He was taken to the ER then in ICU. Now I am the only contact he has to this day I have never received a call from the facility to notify me my father was now in the hospital. I found out the next morning from the hospital. I reviewed this facility on Google with 1 stars because it will not let you put 0 stars and received a reply in 28 minutes. My father almost died in their care and still have not heard from them days later. You can see where this facilities priorities are. I should have researched this place more before having him placed there just didn''t have much time.

Update 10/25/21 My Dad’s physician and several nurses have recently told us they have heard the same issues and concerns from other patients, to quote, “I will never go back to that facility, I thought I was going to die before I could get out.” When you first enter the facility, it appears to be clean and nicely furnished. At our meeting with the Admissions Officer, we were assured that my father would receive the nursing care and physical therapy that he needed to recover from a recent accident. This facility was highly recommended by the staff at UNC Burn Center. After reviewing the previous reviews I was very concerned about the skilled nursing care he would receive. My worst fears were quickly confirmed. The night duty nurses refused to change the soiled bed linens, underwear, etc. and once he was walking with a walker, they would not come to his room to assist him in getting to or using the bathroom before he went to bed at 10pm. The nurse would tell him to use his diaper. He would ring for a nurse over and over and a nurse would finally come to his room the next morning at 5am, this is a patient recovering from 2nd and 3rd degree burns, laying in a wet soiled diaper overnight. When a nurse did come to change his underwear, she would rip them off, tearing off the bandages covering the 2nd and 3rd degree burns. He went 3 days without a bath. Daily baths are critical when a patient is recovering from burns and the risk of infection could prove to be deadly. It appeared his room and bathroom had been cleaned the day he arrived and it was never cleaned again the entire 13 days he stayed in that facility. I met with the Facility Administrator and reviewed concerns that my mother and I had regarding the lack of care/concern with the nursing staff and the hostile attitude my father received when he did ask for assistance. We were promised she would check into our concerns without retaliation. That was the last of that discussion, no changes, just incompetence and attitude day after day. And the previous post regarding "no answer" to phone calls, response to voicemail messages, no way to speak with staff, absolutely on point!! The physical and occupational therapist were great, they worked to get my father mobile and strong enough to go home. Thank you! My father did have 2 nurses that were outstanding, compassionate and provided excellent care. Thank you! I have previous experience with a family member in a skilled nursing/rehab center and it was very positive. It requires very special nurses, doctors and staff to care and assist patients when they are usually the most vulnerable. Read the warnings!! Please don''t send your love one to this facility!!.
