When my older, disabled relative needed a new living arrangement, I checked out senior living communities in Tucson. Scott Wood, from A Place for Mom, helped me find The Echelon. Based on phone conversations and their brochure, I decided to visit The Echelon and meet with Julie Hansen, sales director. She gave me a tour, showed me available apartments, explained their system and was extremely helpful in selecting an apartment that would be well-situated in the complex. My relative has had trouble walking and needed to be close to dining and activities. The one-bedroom apartment is spacious and enjoys a lovely view. It’s central to everything. The all-inclusive meals, the bus transportation and activities, close access to the VA Hospital, and its small, friendly community, sold me on The Echelon. My relative is very happy there. I’m grateful to Julie Hansen for her assistance in the process.

I am 91 yrs old and have lived here in Echelon for 2 and 1/2 yrs. I am so happy here and tell my family I would not like to live anywhere else. I have a one bedroom apt about 660 sq feet and have a beautiful patio off of the bedroom that look out to a lovely large court yard that is green grass and so nice. At the front of my apt I look out onto another court yard with lots of grass also and rose bushes and bird of paradise and a great orange tree with great fruit. I have a nice living room, kitchen, dinning room combination with 2 windows. I have a stove, ref. dishwasher and etc. there. I also have a washer dryer and 2 large closets. My bedroom is real large and suits me well. I do water arobics, and a fit class 2 times a week and shop at Walmart on weds.,so lots of exercose. Also have chir tai chi . We have bus service 8 hrs a day 5 days a week so can go to dr appts. as well as shopping and on field trips each week. We have Bingo at least 3 times a week for those who like that and many card games and puzzles and such in the activities room. We have bible study for both catholic and prodecents each week and some servise on Sunday. We have coffee and donuts for social time and music and a special buffet each Thursday. There are so many things here that you can be as busy as you like and still have time to yiourself when you wish. Family can come and eat with you anytime and that is special. We have movies and great Library (lots if biijs), Our staff does a great job of taking care of us and Activities Director is very helpful too. We also have great security. I tell my family that people think I live in an old folks home and do not realize how much fun we have. Well enough. Come and See for yourself. Bea Cheeseman

My experience with Echelon of Tucson has been a very positive one so far. Although there are still some “kinks to iron out “ with my mom’s apartment and minor repairs to the complex, I am quite impressed with both the staff and the facilities. Julie Hansen was awesome right from the start in making herself available to answer questions and address concerns prior to my mom arriving. Since we’ve been in Tucson, there have been a number of staff members and volunteers who have reached out to my mom, helping her to feel comfortable and welcomed. She has, in just a few weeks, begun establishing friendships and connecting with Echelon activities. Thanks to all who have made this transition to a senior living community smooth for my mother!
